Astray

A Dog-Gone Good Time

Astray was a (sadly) abandoned Senior Thesis idea about a nervous, disheveled beagle trying to reject his status as a "stray" and attempt to fit in with the cool dogs (very cool) at the dog park. His quirky friends decide to help out and knee-slappingly hilarious hijinx ensue. Despite the final idea not coming into fruition, I still do love these good boys.

First pass of main three dogs' designs. The third dog was initally planned to be a fennec fox for no other reason than I love fennec foxes and I thought a fox posing as a dog was very funny. My professor did not agree.

Revision of dogs' designs following professor feedback. Beeg received major revisions and the fennec fox was changed to a Chihuahua. All characters received more traits to define them more as strays.

Clean version of revised character designs.

Turnarounds of all three main dogs, featuring final character designs.

Corso turnaround.

Chihua turnaround.

Expression sheet featuring rough sketches of the main character, Beeg. His ears were very fun to play with. I may or may not love characters with long ears.

Clean version of potential designs for the three "cool dogs". They are very cool.

Background style concepts featuring vesions with and without the main characters for reference.

Clean, lined style.

Heavily stylized, lineless, colorful style.

Rigid, more muted, less detailed style.

Style card featuring finalized character designs and background style.

Beats for the initial version of the story. Though the general flow of the story remained the same, some scenes were changed to help motivate character actions and increase comedic appeal.

Animatic.
